What is SUSTAINMICRON®?
SUSTAINMICRON® is HYDAC's latest generation of filter element, replacing the established Optimicron® series. It combines cutting-edge mat design, bi-component fiber technology, and built-in electrostatic optimization to deliver an unprecedented combination of filtration efficiency, energy savings, and long-term reliability.
Electrostatic discharge protection is built into every SUSTAINMICRON® element. Special bi-component fibers in the outer fleece sleeve actively contribute to electrostatic optimization, preventing charge build-up that causes rapid filter clogging and oil degradation.
The redesigned mat structure significantly reduces differential pressure across the element, allowing your system to operate more efficiently. This translates directly into measurable energy savings and reduced heat generation across every operating cycle.
The intelligent element design actively prevents mesh damage and element breakage, even under high-cycle and pulsating flow conditions. Consistent protection that holds up where previous elements degraded over time.
By preventing electrostatic deposits and maintaining high separation efficiency over time, SUSTAINMICRON® elements last significantly longer between changes, reducing downtime, maintenance costs, and oil consumption.
Despite the reduction in differential pressure, filtration performance is not compromised. SUSTAINMICRON® reliably meets even the most demanding ISO 4406 cleanliness classes, keeping system fluid clean and components protected.
The outer fleece sleeve replaces the old PET film. Its high porosity creates more homogeneous flow characteristics, reducing turbulence and improving consistent filtration across the entire element surface area.

SUSTAINMICRON® is fully backward compatible with all existing Optimicron® housings. It carries the same part numbers as the ON elements it replaces, making the transition seamless for procurement and maintenance teams.

SUSTAINMICRON® elements share the same part numbers as the ON elements they replace, ensuring direct drop-in compatibility. Updated filter housings carry a new model code shown as change number x.5 for filters and size designation xxx7 for elements. New housings receive new part numbers. During the transition period, packaging includes a seal sticker with a QR code linking to full product details.

Yes. SUSTAINMICRON® is 100% backward compatible with all Optimicron® (ON), Optimicron® Pulse (ON/PS), and Stat-Free® (ON/-SFREE) elements. It fits the same housings and uses the same part numbers, so no changes to your ordering or maintenance procedures are required.
The black outer fleece has two roles. First, it provides ESD protection through its bi-component fiber construction. Second, like the previous PET film, it protects the filter mat from contamination during handling and installation. Its high porosity also improves flow homogeneity compared to the old film design.
No. SUSTAINMICRON® provides a high level of electrostatic optimization suitable for a very broad range of applications, but in extremely critical systems Stat-X® remains HYDAC's premium ESD technology. If your application currently requires Stat-X®, please consult the specific product guidance before switching.
During the transition from Optimicron® to SUSTAINMICRON®, element packaging is marked with a seal sticker featuring a QR code linking to full product information. There may be a temporary period where ON and SN elements ship together as stock is converted. SN elements are visually distinct with their black fleece outer sleeve.
Lower differential pressure across the filter element reduces pump load, which directly lowers energy consumption and reduces heat generation in the fluid, extending oil life. Filtration efficiency is not reduced; the element still meets the same or better ISO 4406 cleanliness class requirements.
For filter elements, the part numbers remain the same as the ON elements they replace. However, updated filter housings receive new part numbers and carry the model code change indicator x.5 (for filters) and xxx7 (for element sizes). If you are ordering housings, check for updated codes.
